Vinous
94/100
Dark and brooding in the glass, the 2014 Taurasi Riserva Della Società displays deep notes of crushed plums, tobacco and earthy tones, enriched with balsamic spices and camphor. The longer it lingers in the glass, the more complex it becomes, adding licorice, dark chocolate and lavender to the mix. It is elegant, with a pure velvet texture, but not heavy, as a core of nervous acidity and acidic citrus highlights the tart black fruits and exotic spices. The addictive tannins and a bitter note of berries and mandarins persist, and the 2014 maintains a surprisingly fresh appeal through it all. The Taurasi Riserva Della Società is a complete success for the vintage, showing incredible depth and surprising accessibility. Raffaele Pagano sources the fruit for his Riserva from a vineyard non-grafted pre-phylloxera, planted 150 to 200 years ago.
